Works well if you do not have fully carpeted floors

If you live in a residence that is predominantly hardwood floor, this is one of the better vacuums - no make, that the best. The turbine-powered airbrush works well for moderately shaggy rugs and floors, and while it is not a cheap canister, it is money well spent. I have never sucked out so much dust. Dyson has always scored a very high mark for design and this is no exception. It is quite easy to dump all the dust out from the bin, and I prefer canister vacuums since they're easy to put away.

Get the Motorhead if you have fully carpeted floors. For me the Turbinehead is more than enough.
Best I've ever had

I just took the Dyson vacuum cleaner on its maiden trip. And I am very impressed. I grew up with canister cleaners, and have long wanted one again. Never liked those uprights, heavy and hard to get in under furniture etc. The Dyson is easy to handle, cleans really well. A detail, perhaps, but I appreciate that the additional tools (furniture brush etc) are securely fastened. On my old machines they constantly fell off.
This almost made vacuuming fun. One possible downside - the canister seems perhaps a little on the small side. It didn't take long for me to fill it up - unless, of course, that is more a statement of what my place looked like before I brought the Dyson home. If it keeps it up - it's surely a five-star!
Great product, worth the price

I bought the DC23 over two months ago and have been using it several times a week. I live in a condo with solid-surface flooring and have four animals, two cats and two dogs. The DC23 was purchased to replace or augment a Dyson DC14 Animal Upright that I've used for the last 7+ years.

While I initially agreed with some of the other reviewers comments about the seemingly lightweight or "plastic" construction of the DC23, it now seems that the vacuum was engineered so that the low-stress parts are more lightweight while more durability was designed into the parts that would normally see more abuse. I think that the goal was to keep the unit as small and lightweight as possible, which echoes the engineering I've seen in my DC14 upright. I do wish the power cord was a bit longer, but the self-winding cord storage is a real perk. I also wish that it had a longer hose, but the unit is so small and lightweight that moving it around behind you isn't all that difficult or even noticeable.

The sheer vacuumming strength of this unit is amazing... it's actually outperformed my upright and my every expectation. It's easy to use, very manuverable and very efficient. Bear in mind that I purchased it for use on hardwood floors only... I've not used it with carpeting nor do I plan to do so. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit to anyone with needs similar to my own.
Love it.

Why can't all appliances be this sexy? Seriously, this Dyson Turbinehead DC23 looks like a piece of modern art. Everything that comes into your house should be aesthetically pleasing to you. Why not? I wish other appliance makers would get this simple concept. Why shouldn't our mundane utility items be beautiful? That is what I notice first with this Dyson, it's good looks. It's charcoal gray body, cobalt blue canister and modern design are striking and pleasing to see around the house.

The next thing I notice is that it's intuitive and easy to maneuver. The head is thin enough to slide under furniture easily, the telescoping wand is simple to adjust for height, and the canister is easy to remove. I Love Love Love the retractable cord, the on off button is located right next to the retractable cord button, everything is easy to find. The vacuum is lightweight enough to carry around the house with ease. The handle is ergonomic and actually pivots while on the floor or when cleaning furniture and stairs or dusting. Everything is very simple and straightforward.

One thing that is wonderful about Dyson is that there are no bags. You simply remove the canister, press a button and the contents go right into your garbage. I recommend doing this frequently, after each use or every other use. There are also no belts and no filters to have to keep up with, you only have to maintain the filter by washing it occasionally. This is both convenient and saves money.

Another thing I love about Dyson is that they are wonderful for people with allergies and asthma. Dyson vacuums are certified asthma and allergy friendly. There's no funky smell or particles floating around--you know how sometimes vacuums seem to stir up more stuff than they vacuum? Not this.

There are several attachments, making upholstery cleaning and getting into nooks and crannies easy and the suction is great for both my bamboo floors and carpet. I Love this vacuum, highly recommended!
Ridiculously good

I am an engineer -- and altogether hard to impress.

I bought this vacuum a few weeks ago. It is my first bagless canister machine. I use it on marble-tiled, ceramic-tiled, wood and medium-to-thick pile rug covered floorings.

While the Eureka bagged canister machine I used for years seemed to do a fine job, this Dyson made me feel as if I'd been living in New York City soot and Pug dog hair for too long. It's nothing short of fulfilling to see what is being cleaned from my floors. The turbine-driven brush head is so simple and effective -- no belts that inevitably require replacement -- and there are just two settings (carpeted and not-carpeted). My prior machine had far too many options and I don't believe I ever had any idea which was appropriate. The wand is constructed with multiple articulated joints -- moving parts which (not unlike the Dyson ball design) allow my entire arm to move however I please around furniture (and my 14-year old Pug, who happens to be afraid of nothing -- least of all, vacuums).

Perhaps it seems pricey for some, but I feel that I've gotten what I paid for -- and the savings in bags is merely a bonus atop knowing I'm not tossing yet another useless bag into the trash/environment.
